How It Works: Customers

We began with a simple mission: to create equitable access to healthy, affordable food for all. In the time of social distancing, we have adapted our community pick up model. Now, we deliver your orders of fresh produce and delicious meats, poultry, and fish to your home - for no additional fee.

We have two delivery weekends each month. There is no fee for home delivery!

We accept all major credit and debit cards and LINK. Place your order over the phone or on the Shop Boxes page by 10AM the Tuesday before delivery weekend.

Delivery Week #1: No-Fee Home Delivery the second Friday & Saturday of the month

Delivery Week #2: Pick Up or No-Fee Home Delivery the fourth Friday & Saturday of the month

If you are using a LINK card, we'll follow up with you after you place your order online or you can call our customer service line 312-527-7890 *200 to process your payment at your convenience. If you do not reach us, please leave a voicemail and we'll get back to you by the next business day.

All deliveries are being made by volunteers following a Social Distancing Protocol to respect the health of everyone.

How it Works in Chicago/Cook County

Top Box Foods shops all month to find you the best deals on healthy foods like fresh fruits and vegetables and frozen meats, poultry, and fish. Our goal is to create access to healthy foods in all communities.

We then bundle the food in boxes and partner with community organizations, religious organizations, healthcare providers, housing facilities, and schools to help spread the word about these healthy and affordable foods.

You place your order online or over the phone and your fresh produce and delicious meats will be delivered directly to your home - at no additional fee. 

Because we keep our costs low, we're able to give 5% of sales back to our Community Partners. Each box you buy is an investment in your health and an investment in your community.

  • Anyone can order Top Box Foods and everyone should! Each person who buys a box helps expand the Top Box Foods community, which increases purchasing power and savings. By eating well and spending less on groceries, you are creating positive change for yourself, your family, and your community.

  • There are three ways customers can place an order for a box. It's simple:

    1. Click here to visit our store OR
    2. Give us a call at (312) 527-7890 OR
    3. Complete an order form at your partnering organization and turn it in by the monthly deadline
  • You can order anytime! But please place your order no later than the monthly deadline (the Tuesday before the delivery weekend). Typically we deliver the second weekend of every month, for a list of the next delivery dates, times, and locations, click here.

  • We make it easy for you to pay for your boxes! There are a variety of ways to pay for your order:

    1. You can pre-pay via our website when placing an order online, or over the phone using Credit/Debit Card or PayPal.

    2. On delivery day, you can pay for your order with Credit/Debit Cards, LINK Cards (SNAP), Check, Cash, or Money Order.

  • No. Top Box Foods has no minimum or maximum order requirements. We have a great selection of boxes, order what looks delicious to you!

  • Yes. Top Box Foods accepts SNAP benefits via LINK Cards as payment for orders. Due to COVID-19, all payments must be made before your Pick-Up date or your order will be cancelled and refunded. Please give us a call at your convenience to process your LINK payment. 

Receiving Your Order

  • When you place your order, you will select a delivery location. For a list of our convenient locations, click here. The week before we deliver to your neighborhood, we'll even call you to remind you when and where to pick up! On delivery days, simply come to your location at the designated time. 

  • Our no-fee home deliveries are effortless and contactless, so you can get your food easily while staying safe at home.

    At check out: choose which day you want your food to arrive. If you would like to place an order for both dates, please place two separate orders - one for each date.

    Day before your delivery: we'll send you a reminder email with an Estimated Delivery Window, so you know when to expect your food.

    Delivery Day: Our volunteer delivery driver will call or text you when they are on the way, to let you know when they will arrive. Please be on the lookout for a call from your delivery driver during your Estimated Delivery Window. When the driver reaches your home, they will bring your order to the front door, step back to maintain social distancing, and call you to let you know that your order has arrived. You can retrieve your order from your front door to bring it inside. For the health and safety of our customers and our drivers, drivers have been instructed to bring your order to the front door of your home or building - drivers will not enter your home.

  • If you are unable to be home to receive your order, please let us know as early as possible so we can work with you to get you your food. Give us a call at (312) 527-7890 *200 and our excellent Customer Service team will help you find a solution.

    If you would prefer to Pick-Up your order, we are now offering a Pick-Up option on the Friday of the second delivery weekend. Orders will be picked up from 3:00-6:00PM in the parking lot of Provident Hospital (500 E. 51st Street, Chicago, IL). Select Pick-Up on this date when you check out online or over the phone.

    If you choose Home Delivery, choose your preferred delivery date at check out. You will receive a customer service call 2 days before your delivery with your estimated delivery time, and a reminder email the day before delivery to remind you to expect your order. Your delivery driver will call you when they are on the way, and again when they have arrived with your order. If your delivery driver arrives at your home to deliver your order and is unable to reach you via phone, knock, or doorbell, they will leave your order for you. We do everything we can to communicate in advance so you know when to expect your order and when to be home to receive it.

  • Top Box Foods delivery drivers follow our Social Distancing Protocol, which is designed for the health and safety of our customers and our drivers by reducing close-contact air exposure.

    To maintain safe distances, there will be no direct hand off of the groceries. Delivery drivers will bring the products to the front door and notify you of your food's arrival. The driver will step back to maintain distance, while you come to your front door to pick up your food. Drivers will not be able to enter any apartment buildings or homes.

  • You can expect the offerings in some of our boxes to change every few months because we are always looking for the best deals. We work hard to make sure that we have the foods you love every month, as well as new items to add variety. Each month we offer a special box of great value and limited supply, click here to see the special this month! However, in order to keep costs low and your savings high, individual content changes cannot be made to any of the boxes.

  • Top Box Foods is different than your typical retail store. We work hard to identify direct sources of high quality, healthy food from vendors, and we buy enough of it to get the best possible pricing. Because we are a non-profit, we run the business without a lot of the usual costs of a retail grocery store.  To keep our costs low and our prices averaging around 40% off the cost of retail, we have a vast network of volunteer support, no fixed assets or real estate, no trucks or warehouses to own, low overhead costs, minimal retail and marketing costs, low transportation costs, no investors demanding a return, and no retail mark-up.

  • Our food comes from several trusted suppliers who are able to find good deals on high quality products from manufacturers and brokers who primarily supply restaurants, grocery stores, and catering businesses – businesses that demand consistent, high quality products to successfully support the large volume and expectations of the operations they run.

  • Yes, we offer holiday specials! As part of our changing product mix, we offer seasonal boxes and specialty products to celebrate special occasions such as Thanksgiving, Easter, and Holiday Boxes.

  • Top Box Foods takes pride in our high-quality, affordable boxes of food. We hope that every Top Box Foods customer is fully satisfied with our products.     • All issues and concerns regarding recently delivered food must be received by Top Box Foods no later than 5pm the Monday following delivery.
    • If there's a problem with the quality of your order, Top Box Foods gives full credit towards a future order on all affected products.
    • On Order Fulfillment Issues, Top Box Foods provides credit/debit, check, LINK, and credit (Top Bucks) refunds.
    • Top Box Foods reserves the right to review all cases independently.
  • Our goal is to communicate clearly and regularly with our customers. For this reason, you will receive a confirmation email when you place an order (if you provide an active email address). We also attempt to call and text all of our customers to remind them about their order contents, delivery location, and the pickup day and time. Customers are then added to our newsletter and promotional email and text lists. If you prefer not to be on those lists, you can either unsubscribe or just notify us by phone or email that you would like to be removed.

  • All partners-- both delivery sites and partner sites-- get 5% of sales back. This means that every time a box is ordered and picked up, you will receive 5% of the cost of that box. This is a tremendous fundraising opportunity for our partners. Checks are written and mailed to our partners after each monthly delivery.
