How the Makin' Groceries Program Works 

Top Box Foods shops all month to find you the best deals on fresh fruits and vegetables and frozen meats, poultry, and fish.

We then bundle the food in boxes and partner with churches, community organizations, housing facilities, and schools to help spread the word about these tremendous savings.

In Baton Rouge, all boxes are pre-ordered by individuals and delivered monthly to convenient locations, typically in communities with limited access to healthy and affordable food.

Because we keep our costs low, we're able to give 5% of sales back to our partnering organizations.

Ordering

  • Anyone can order Top Box Foods and everyone should! Each person who buys a box helps expand the Top Box Foods community, which increases purchasing power and savings. By eating well and spending less on groceries, you are creating positive change for yourself, your family, and your community.

  • No. Top Box Foods has no minimum or maximum order requirements. We have a great selection of boxes, order what looks delicious to you!

  • At this time we do not offer substitutions or customizations. See our recipes page here to find creative ways to use all your fruits and veggies. Thank you for your understanding! 

Receiving Your Order

  • Top Box Foods takes pride in the quality of our produce, and we have various quality control measures to ensure that quality remains high. We ask that all customers check their boxes and report any concerns to our staff ASAP, that way we can make any refunds or credits deemed necessary. If you have feedback about your box, please email info.nola@topboxfoods.com or call (504) 304-2319.

  • NOLA Customers:

    If you ordered a Growing Local Box, your order will be delivered on Friday. If you ordered a Crescent City Farmers' Market Box, your order will be delivered Tuesday of the following week. All other items will be delivered on the same day as your local box.

    For all other standard orders, your order will be delivered the next business day between 9am and 5pm. All orders must be placed by at least 8pm the night before they are to be delivered. We will give you a call the morning of your delivery to confirm what time. If you are missing a confirmation email the day you place your order, or a confirmation call the day of your delivery, please call (504) 304-2319.

    BR Customers:

    Your order will be delivered the next Wednesday or Friday between 9am and 5pm. Additional Information

  • Top Box Foods is different than your typical retail store. We work hard to identify direct sources of high quality, healthy food from vendors, and we buy enough of it to get the best possible pricing. Because we are a non-profit, we run the business without a lot of the usual costs of a retail grocery store.  To keep our costs low and our prices averaging around 40% off the cost of retail, we have a vast network of volunteer support, no fixed assets or real estate, no trucks or warehouses to own, low overhead costs, minimal retail and marketing costs, low transportation costs, no investors demanding a return, and no retail mark-up.

  • Our food comes from several trusted suppliers who are able to find good deals on high quality products from manufacturers and brokers who primarily supply restaurants, grocery stores, and catering businesses – businesses that demand consistent, high quality products to successfully support the large volume and expectations of the operations they run.

  • Our goal is to communicate clearly and regularly with our customers. For this reason, you will receive a confirmation email when you place an order (if you provide an active email address). We also attempt to call and text all of our customers to remind them about their order contents, delivery location, and the pickup day and time. Customers are then added to our newsletter and promotional email and text lists. If you prefer not to be on those lists, you can either unsubscribe or just notify us by phone or email that you would like to be removed. 

  • NOLA: The produce in our Growing Local Box and our Crescent City Farmers’ Market Boxes are all local. The majority of our other produce is sourced from the same distributors as a grocery store. Meat and seafood origins vary and we will include their location in the descriptions coming soon. Keep posted at @topboxlouisiana on social media to learn about our current local offerings!

     

    BR: We source locally when we can, but can’t guarantee local items in the produce boxes. We are actively working on partnerships to provide local produce in Baton Rouge. Purchasing

  • We accept both EBT/SNAP and credit/debit cards! To pay with card, select Paypal at checkout. If you have no Paypal account, don't worry; there is a guest checkout button at the bottom. To pay with EBT/SNAP, select that option at checkout, and we will call you the day before or day of your delivery to take payment over the phone.
